A Review on the Book In Defense of Food

by A Diet Community

The book In Defense of Food was really an interesting ‘diet’ book. However, if you are looking for a quick and easy read, this is not the book for you. This book has great advice and is very intriguing. I am going to sum it up into brief guidelines that the author wrote. This is the type of book and diet that is more of a lifestyle change than a quick diet to lose 10 pounds.

The author of In Defense of Food says when you eat food, the main rule is to avoid food products containing ingredients that are a) unfamiliar, b) unpronounceable, c) more than five in number, or that include high fructose corn syrup. This seems like quite a simple guideline to follow, but finding foods that fit in our highly processed world, takes a bit of ingenuity and a lot more planning than most people are willing to do.

In today’s society, especially in the western world, people are busy. We are on the go so much that we hardly have time to read the labels. I guess that is one of the primary reasons why we are an overweight society.

In Defense of Food is a wonderful book full of fascinating information. This information is also backed up by a great deal of research and documentation. If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and read this book, it will most likely change your outlook on food and eating. I am almost compelled to make some drastic changes in my life, in regards to food and eating. This is not just a diet for you to go on to lose 10, 20, or 30 pounds. If you want to change your life in a dietary and healthy way, In Defense of Food is the book for you!

Love the main rule!!!  If we all would follow this rule at least 70% of the time, then excess weight would not be an issue for us!  Haven’t read the book, but might check it out.  Thanks.

I especially like the advice not to buy a product that contains an ingredient that you can’t pronounce!  I quite often wonder what’s in something when strange words are listed and have even wondered if I had a reading problem or something!!!  We all need to eat foods that we fix ourselves more than purchasing pre-packaged stuff.
